KYIV, June 4 – According to a survey conducted by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), the majority of Ukrainians prefer a democratic system to strong leadership. Consistently more than 90% of Ukrainians want to see Ukraine as a fully functioning democracy. In this regard, a question was asked about how, according to respondents, the situation with democracy in the country has changed over the five years of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's presidency.
"19% of Ukrainians believe the situation with democracy has improved, and 29% – that it has not changed. Some 43% see some deterioration, but among them 11%, first of all, attribute this to the objective circumstances of wartime, and 28% – to attempts of the authorities to curtail the rights and freedoms of citizens (another 3% cited both reasons)," the KIIS said on Tuesday.
