KIEV, Dec. 12 - Ukraine will next year start massive construction of coal mines to offset the country??™s dependence on natural gas as dominant fuel for power plants, the government reported Tuesday.

Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych met Coal Industry Minister Serhiy Tulub on Tuesday to approve the coal mine construction program as a way to reduce the gas imports.
