KYIV, June 6 – The explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Kherson region does not yet directly threaten the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), but may eventually lead to problems in the ZNPP water cooling system, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told the agency's board of governors on Tuesday.
"Absence of cooling water in the essential cooling water systems for an extended period of time would cause fuel melt and inoperability of the emergency diesel generators. However, our current assessment is that there is no immediate risk to the safety of the plant," he said.
