Russian shelling leads to mass death of fish in Kakhovka reservoir: agency
Journal Staff Report

KYIV, Feb 7 – In January 2023, the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Fisheries of Ukraine recorded the mass death of fish due to damage to the locking beams of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant caused by Russian shelling in the area of the Kakhovka reservoir in Kherson region.

"There has been a mass death of aquatic biological resources. This creates a direct danger of disruption of spring spawning in the reservoir. Shelling of the coastal part of the city of Kherson and the water area of the Dnipro River by the Russian Federation also led to the mass death of silver carp. Criminal proceedings have been initiated on this fact. The damage caused to the fish industry in this case is tentative amounts to more than UAH 390 million," the State Fisheries Agency reported on its website.
