KYIV, Aug 29 - The Ukraine military said on Monday it had breached Russia’s first line of defense near Kherson just north of the Crimea, the peninsula that Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

Such an advance would represent a strategic breakthrough as Kherson is the biggest Ukrainian city that the Russians now occupy, amid reports of Ukrainian forces launching a counteroffensive in the region, Thr Associated Press reported.
