KYIV, June 2 – The resumption of operation of the Khmelnitsky NPP – Rzeszow interstate power transmission line will increase cross-border electricity trade between countries and enable Ukraine to receive more than EUR 1 billion in profit annually, NPC Ukrenergo has said.
According to the company's information on its Telegram channel on Wednesday, the agreements on the restoration of this interstate interconnector are secured by an intergovernmental memorandum on strengthening cooperation in the energy sector signed by Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Haluschenko and Minister of Climate and Environment of Poland Anna Moskwa in Kyiv.
According to Haluschenko, who is cited in the release of the Ministry of Energy, the launch of the line will potentially enable Ukraine to increase electricity exports to Poland up to 1 GW, which will allow the partner country to largely replace Russian gas and coal.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the parties agreed to put a 400 kV interstate transmission line between Ukraine and Poland into operation in the near future.
Ukrenergo said that Poland became the first country to resume the export of Ukrainian electricity after synchronizing the Ukrainian power system with ENTSO-E, and Moskwa said that Poland was directly interested in increasing its imports. (om/ez)
