EU’s Olof Skoog condemns Russia’s civilian killings committed in Ukraine
Journal Staff Report

KYIV, April 7 – Mass killings with a large number of deaths and civilian casualties, as well as the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine shows the real face of Russia's brutal aggressive war against Ukraine, these massacres will be included in the list of atrocities committed by Russia on European soil, Olof Skoog, Head of the European Union delegation, said.

He said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine in New York on Tuesday that they condemn in the strongest terms the atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces in a number of occupied Ukrainian cities. Haunting images of mass killings with a large number of deaths and civilian casualties, as well as the destruction of civilian infrastructure, show the real face of Russia's brutal aggressive war, he said, adding that those massacres will be included in the list of atrocities committed by Russia on European soil.

He stressed that the Russian authorities are responsible for these crimes committed while they held actual control over these territories.

Skoog explained that they are a subject of the international law of occupation.

The diplomat added that the EU condemns in the strongest terms Russia's unjustified and unprovoked aggressive war against Ukraine.

Skoog said they demand that Russia immediately cease its military aggression, immediately and unconditionally withdraw its troops from the entire territory of Ukraine and fully respect the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, as required by the UN General Assembly.

The Ambassador called on Russia to stop attacks on civilians and shelling of civilian objects, including hospitals, medical institutions, schools and shelters.

Skoog said that these war crimes must stop immediately, adding that the perpetrators will be brought to justice in accordance with international law. (om/ez)
