KYIV, Jan 31 – U.S. Westinghouse will need about two years to be ready to meet the needs of National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom for fuel for 13 existing VVER-1000 reactors, for this time there is enough fuel at nuclear power plants, Head of Energoatom Petro Kotin has said.
"If it is about our 13 VVER-1000 power units, then seven of them are already provided by Westinghouse fuel, and six by the Russian side. Now we have fuel, I would say, for two or two and a half years, taking into account what is already inside the reactors. In the contract with the U.S. company, it is precisely these terms that are laid down that, if necessary, it will increase its production over the course of two years and cover all our needs," Kotin told Interfax-Ukraine during a visit to the Central Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility.
