Parliament approves bill to toughen tobacco regulations, advertising
Journal Staff Report

KYIV, Dec 16 – The Verkhovna Rada has passed bill No. 4358, which toughens the requirements for the production, sale, advertising and use of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes, and introduces fines for smoking hookahs, e-cigarettes and tobacco products for electric heating in public places and catering establishments.

The document at the second reading was supported by 317 MPs on Thursday with the required 226 votes.

The bill proposes to ban production in Ukraine (except for production for export), trade and import of cigarettes with nicotine content in the smoke of one cigarette over 1.0 mg, tar – over 10 mg, carbon monoxide – over 10 mg; flavored or aromatic cigarettes; cigarettes that "resemble a food or cosmetic product;" tobacco products that advertise smoking or do not contain health warnings.
