KYIV, Aug 11 - The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the state economic program for spent nuclear fuel treatment of domestic nuclear power plants until 2025 in the amount of approximately UAH 8.9 billion.
The corresponding resolution was adopted at a government meeting on August 11.
According to Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, the program was developed on the basis of a profile EU directive, and its main goal is safety in the field of nuclear energy and the energy independence of Ukraine, primarily through the construction and operation of the centralized spent nuclear fuel storage facility. In addition, in the process of implementing the program, a full-fledged infrastructure for its transportation will be introduced, the prime minister explained.
