KYIV, Aug 2 – Ukraine is not considering the option of purchasing gas from Russia, Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Yuriy Vitrenko has said.
"We do not consider such an option at all. We do not talk about it with anyone. Here we have a very clear position. In principle, we want Ukraine to start exporting gas, not importing it. We are now producing about 20 billion cubic meters in a year, and the whole of Ukraine consumes about 30 billion cubic meters. Accordingly, we import 10 billion. But if you look only at household consumers, we will see a slightly different situation," Vitrenko said in an interview with Radio Liberty on Saturday.
He added that Ukraine needs to produce more gas than all consumers use.
