KYIV, July 27 – Gazprom’s position gas transit via Ukraine will continue after 2024 only if EU companies buy additional volumes of gas confirms that Russia is using gas as a geopolitical weapon against Ukraine and the EU, Naftogaz CEO Yuriy Vitrenko said.

"Russia continues using gas as a geopolitical weapon against Ukraine and the EU," he wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.

Vitrenko said that "if the statements of Germany and Russia about the construction of Nord Stream 2 only for additional volumes were honest," then the volumes of European buyers of Gazprom's gas should continue to go through Ukraine under current contracts.
