KYIV, July 13 – The Normandy format has the potential to become a platform for resolving energy security issues for Ukraine and the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas regarding the completion of the construction and transit of gas through the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
"I really believe that the Normandy format can become a platform where the energy issue can be raised [the construction of Nord Stream 2]. I told Merkel that we should not forget about the risk that Ukraine could be cut off from gas transit and also, in general, from gas [...] The conditional risk is the entire territory of Ukraine and temporarily occupied. That is, the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas may not receive gas either, and this is already an issue about security guarantees in these territories, which all participants in the Normandy format took upon themselves," Zelensky said at a joint briefing with Merkel in Germany.
