MINSK, Sept. 7 ??“ Belarus is ready to generate its own electricity instead of importing it from Ukraine if the price of Ukrainian electricity rises in 2007, according to Vladimir Korduba, an aide of the director general of the Belarus national energy company, BelEnergo concern.

He said that according to contracts signed with Ukraine for 2006, Ukraine will supply to Belarus up to 2.5 billion kWh of electricity worth $52 million, at the price of $0.021 per kWh. But recently Kiev reported that it intends to raise the price of the electricity supplied to Belarus by 10%-15% - to $0.0231-0.02415 per kWh.
