KYIV, May 7 – Ukraine must make sure that 205 freight electric locomotives that it plans to import should have a share of locally produced components to increase employment in the country, Volodymyr Prykhodko, head of the supervisory board of Kriukov Car Building Works, said.
The locomotives are to be purchased by the state-owned railroad company Ukrzaliznytsia in the near future.
"Ukrzaliznytsia announced an invitation to compile a short list of participants in the upcoming tender for the purchase of 205 electric locomotives, with a minimum of 15% local content. I would like to hear how local content share will be observed in Ukraine this time, and what is planned to be done not to repeat the mistakes with the local content share of General Electric diesel locomotives, when these conditions were not clearly stated in the contract, and as a result we got the local content share of less than 10% for the first batch, and the project as a result failed," Prykhodko said during an online roundtable, organized by the Federation of Employers of Ukraine.
