ODESA, May 30 – Ukraine, Georgia, and Azerbaijan intend to arrange a railroad route from China to Europe and launch it before 2020, Ukrainian Deputy Infrastructure Minister Yuriy Lavreniuk has said.
"We are continuing to cooperate and work together to liaise the three railroad systems, those of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Ukraine, to arrange a railway route from China to Europe through the Caspian Sea and Ukraine. Azerbaijan Railways operates two ferries on the Caspian Sea. Ukrzaliznytsia also has two ferries on its inventory, which it also plans to operate jointly. The goal now is to work out a single route and a single floating tariff, which would help us increase the throughput capacity and transport all cargo via Ukraine," Lavreniuk said during the Ukrainian Ports Forum 2019 in Odesa.
