GENEVA, July 10 - Ukraine's planned expansion of a shipping canal in the Danube Delta will endanger local wildlife by destroying the habitats of birds and fish, a U.N. panel said Monday, according to a report by The Associated Press.
Ukraine should also have notified and consulted with its neighbor Romania over the project to deepen and widen the 170-kilometer (105-mile) canal through the Danube's Bystre Estuary, according to a report compiled for the U.N. Economic Commission for Europe.
