KYIV, Oct 1 - Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to destabilize the situation in Ukraine ahead of elections in the country, President Petro Poroshenko said.

"He [Putin] understands that he will not be able to succeed in a military operation on land, but he expects success to be achieved during elections. So he undermines stability inside the country with the help of cyberattacks, using fake news technology, to be more precise, disinformation technology. Russia is spending billions on supporting Sputnik TV, Russia Today and many other [channels]," Poroshenko said in an interview with CNN, according to his official website.
