KYIV, July 23 - An analogue of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) could be created on the basis of the state-run State Finance Institution for Innovations (SFII), adding the proposal could be submitted to the government for approval by autumn, Chairman of Ukroboronprom's supervisory board Mykhailo Zgurorsky said.
Zgurovsky said an earlier proposal since 2016 to create Ukraine's DARPA - dubbed GARDA from the General Advanced Research and Development Agency - at National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" was discussed and later withdrawn. He agreed with former DARPA Head Anthony Tether that such an agency "should be a government body financed by the state budget."
