KYIV, April 6 – Ukraine is considering the possibility of building a new airport in Khust or Mukacheve and plans to launch a full-fledged air service with Zakarpattia region in 2018, according to Volodymyr Omelyan, the infrastructure minister.
"The biggest low-cost carrier Ryanair enters [Ukraine] this year, and they are ready to expand the geography of flights and fly from regional airports. We need to be ready. One more separate airport is needed in Zakarpattia region. I hope that if this program is approved, next year we will be able to proceed to design and physical work... Today we visited potential sites where a new airport could be located. This can be Khust or Mukacheve," the minister said.
