KYIV, Sept. 7 - Ukraine will seek to persuade European companies start buying Russian natural gas at its eastern border and pay for gas transit via the country, President Petro Poroshenko said Thursday.

The idea, which has been vehemently opposed by Russia, would replace the current system when the companies buy gas in Europe after Gazprom moves it across Ukraine.
