Kiev Pechersky court upholds request to detain former president

KIEV. Dec 15 – Pechersky District Court in Kiev at a closed court hearing on Wednesday upheld the prosecutor's request for permission to detain former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine's Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said.

"On December 14, 2016, Pechersky District Court of Kiev examined in a closed court hearing a request of prosecutor of the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office Kravchenko for permission to detain the suspect Yanukovych with a view to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention, has ruled to grant the petition and grant permission for Yanukovych's detention," Lutsenko wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.
