KIEV, Dec. 14 - Ukraine assured the European Union that it won’t take Russian natural gas transit to Europe as payment to pay the $6.74 billion penalty imposed on Gazprom by its anti-monopoly committee, Energy and Fuel Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk said Wednesday.
The assurances relieve concerns that the action if taken by Ukraine would disrupt gas supplies between Russia and Europe.
Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman told the European Commission that the transit of Russian gas will not be disrupted and that Ukraine will find other ways to force Gazprom pay the penalty.
