KIEV, Nov. 16 – MP Serhiy Taruta insists on stepping up personal liability for misuse of office by owners and top managers of Ukrainian banks, and senior officials of the National Bank of Ukraine.

"There should be more liability. For the owners of banks and the management. Very sophisticated patterns can be used when owners aren't aware of what schemes are worked out by the management of a bank together with the NBU heads to siphon money," Taruta said at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada committee on human rights, national minorities and multicultural relations on Wednesday.

Taruta says only in that case systemic changes in the Ukrainian banking system could become reality.
