KIEV, Nov 7 – Ukraine’s security service (SBU) discovered a chemical plant in the Luhansk region has been violating water basin protection rules, the agency reported Monday.
The enterprise was pouring chemical waste to the Siversky Donets River. This caused water pollution.
"The plant's top managers decided to save on environment protection measures and waste disposal and simply threw it into the river. A pipe was installed under water and at least since 2014 tonnes of chemicals have been poured to the Siversky Donets River. This has resulted in large pollution and change of quality of water. Thus, the plant polluted 10 km of the river area that goes to the drinking water horizons used by Rubizhne, Lysychansk, Severodonetsk and other towns," SBU said.
