KIEV, April 4 – Ukraine's Economic Development and Trade Ministry believes that it is viable to temporarily increase the exports duty for scrap ferrous metal from current EUR 10 per ton to EUR 25 per ton, not to EUR 35 per ton as authors of the relevant bill passed at first reading proposed.
Director of the foreign economic operations regulation department at the ministry Denys Hutenko gave the information at a meeting of the working group for stimulation of exports and transportation safety for metal and mining sector exporters under the Council for Promoting Exports under the auspices of Ukraine's Economic Development and Trade Ministry. He said that the ministry has some remarks to bill No. 3868.
The ministry believes that if the duty is increased to EUR 35 per ton, scrap metal production would decrease and later with the restoration of the metal sector scrap metal volumes would not be able to meet the needs of Ukrainian enterprises.
