KIEV, Feb. 25 ??“ A pro-Russian opposition group threatened to start street protests in Crimea in reaction to a pressure from the Ukrainian authorities to cancel a local referendum on the status of the Russian language.

The group, a branch of the Regions Party, led by former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, warned of the protests, highlighting concerns within the Ukrainian government of possible instability.
