KIEV, Feb. 17 – The human rights situation in Crimea deteriorates amidst the militarization of the peninsula, which also involves kidnapping, torture, and murder, thus providing grounds for the need to open permanent missions of international organizations there, Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko said.
"We urge the Russian Federation as the occupying power to immediately provide a free and unconditional access to the peninsula for a constant international presence of relevant UN, Council of Europe [CE] and OSCE mechanisms, as well as other international organizations," Yelchenko said in his speech at the UN Security Council open debate, which was devoted to the compliance with the UN Statute's aims and principles.
