SIMFEROPOL, Dec. 14 – The Chernomorneftegaz oil and gas company headquartered in Simferopol, has announced that two extracting platforms were moved from the Odessa gasfield to the coast of Crimea at the end of November due to an increased threat of terrorism.
"The Odessa field is located in neutral waters with an uncertain status from the viewpoint of international law… The head of the republic Sergei Aksyonov gave instructions that [it was decided] to move the rigs to the territorial waters of Russia, given an increased threat of terrorism…. The installations were located approximately 180 km away from the coast. It was difficult to guarantee their security at such a distance from territorial waters," Chernomorneftegaz CEO Igor Shabanov told journalists on Monday.
