KIEV, Dec. 14 – President Petro Poroshenko has announced that Ukrainian domestic passports will be issued as plastic cards as of January 1, 2016.

"Let me greet you with an extremely important day in Ukraine's history. What we've seen today is the start of producing Ukrainian passports as ID cards – this is what a real revolution looks like. This is the last farewell to the Soviet Union," Poroshenko told journalists on Monday while visiting Ukraina Polygraph Combine printing and publishing plant, which will produce such cards.
