CHICAGO, Oct. 13 – Steel use in Ukraine in 2015 will fall by 27% in 2015, to 3.1 million tons, Worldsteel Economics Committee Chairman Hans Jurgen Kerkhoff said at the 49th annual conference of the committee, held in Chicago on October 11 through October 13.
He said that steel use in Ukraine will grow by 9% in 2016, to 3.4 million tons, and that in 2014 the country cut steel use by 23.5%, to 4.3 million tons.
Earlier, Kerkhoff said that in Ukraine, the conflict in the eastern part of the country was a severe blow to its economic activities and apparent steel use declined.
