KIEV, Sept. 10 – Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has spoken out against the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline and said he will express his position on the issue at the European Council.
"For many years we spoke within the European Council about the need to help Ukraine so that it could remain a transit country, to help it in difficult winter months. And at the same time we are facing the fact that Gazprom has signed with representatives of European states an agreement [has been made] that a new line of the Nord Stream will be built. I would have used neutral language, but I want to speak emphatically: they just make fools of us," Fico told reporters after talks with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk in Bratislava on Thursday.
