KIEV, July 15 – The inclusion of presumed consent for organ donation in Ukrainian legislation will allow Ukraine to develop transplantology and meet the demand in the country for donor organs, Andriy Kostenko, deputy chief doctor of the National Center for Transplantology, said.
The demand for transplant organs as of today is nearly 2,000 kidney transplantations per year, 1,500 livers per year, and nearly 1,000 patients need heart transplants every year, the Health Ministry reported.
