EU ready to up aid ante to help residents of eastern regions
KIEV, Aug. 18 – The European Union is ready to assist Ukraine in providing aid to residents in eastern Ukrainian territories liberated during the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) and internally displaced persons (IDP), Director of the European Commission's Humanitarian and Civil Protection Operations Jean-Louis de Brouwer said at a meeting with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman on Monday. |
Ukraine to soon start building $1 billion Odessa LNG terminal
KIEV, Aug. 18 - Ukraine will soon start building a liquefied natural gas terminal near Odessa to reduce dependence on imports of Russian gas, Oleksandr Turchynov, the speaker of Parliament, said Monday.
The $1 billion project is supposed to use a floating platform to begin LNG imports before expanding the project on-shore. |
Work at steel mills, chemical plants, halted by shell attacks
KIEV, Aug. 18 - Work at four enterprises of Metinvest Group in Yenakiyeve and Hartsyzsk in Donetsk region, the Yenakiyeve Iron and Steel Works, Yenakiyeve Coke and Chemicals Plant, Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant and remaining de-energized Avdiyivka Coke and Chemicals Plant, were halted as a result of powerful shell attacks. |
Dozens reported killed fleeing fighting
KIEV, Aug. 18 - Dozens of people, including women and children, were killed as they fled fighting in eastern Ukraine on Monday when their convoy of buses was hit by rocket fire, a military spokesman said. |
Russia weighing tougher Ukraine sanctions
KIEV, Aug. 18 – Russia may impose tougher trade sanctions against Ukraine should Kiev make the “suicidal” move to sign free trade and political association agreements with the European Union, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday. |
