Fierce fighting rages in eastern Ukraine

KIEV, Feb. 19 - Fighting raged in eastern Ukraine on Thursday despite European efforts to resurrect a stillborn ceasefire, a day after pro-Russian separatists spurned the truce by forcing thousands of government troops out of a strategic town, Reuters reported.


Counterfeit software usage down in Ukraine government, official says

KIEV, Feb. 17 – Counterfeit software usage in government agencies dropped from 40% to 33% in 2013, Oleksiy Ardanov, acting Chief of the Copyright and Related Rights Division of the State Intellectual Property Service, told Interfax-Ukraine.


Government tries to choke off protests by closing metro, traffic

KIEV, Feb. 19 - The Kiev metro will not open on Wednesday because of what the authorities are calling a “persisting terror attack threat."

First of two An-148-100 regional jets sent to North Korean airline

KIEV, Feb. 18 – Air Koryo, North Korea's national airline, has added to its fleet the first of two new Ukrainian-Russian An-148 regional jets.

The first An-148-100, which was assembled at Antonov State Enterprise in cooperation with Voronezh Aircraft Production Association (VASO, Russia), was sent to North Korea in early February under a contract signed in July 2010, an informed source in Ukraine's aviation industry told Interfax-Ukraine.


Klitschko would win Kiev mayoral election, according to poll

KIEV, Feb. 19 – The largest number of residents of Kiev would vote for UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko in a mayoral election if he were nominated as a single candidate from the UDAR, Batkivschyna and Svoboda parties, according to a poll conducted by the Razumkov Center.

Cabinet OKs bill introducing biometric passports for foreign travel

KIEV, Feb. 16 – The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a bill on the introduction of biometric passports for traveling abroad, which will contain forefinger prints, Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych said.
