New economy minister trying to woo Russia

KIEV, March 26 – Newly appointed Economy Minister Petro Poroshenko on Monday sought to ease trade tensions with Moscow, and said that Ukraine may benefit from Russia’s joining the World Trade Organization later this year.


Tymoshenko calls on Japanese to invest in Ukraine farms, nukes

TOKYO, March 26 – Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has called on Japanese businessmen to invest in a number of Ukrainian industries, including in the agricultural and nuclear energy sectors.

Speaking at a Japanese business forum in Tokyo on Thursday, she recalled that "Ukraine has a third of the world's black soils."

UkrNafta denies government??™s allegations of tax payment failure

KIEV, March 26 - Ukraine??™s largest oil producer, UkrNafta, on Monday denied allegations from a top government official that the company had been failing to pay required tax payments to the state budget.

UkrNafta said it paid 4.75 billion hryvnias ($940 million) to central and regional budgets in 2006, up 58.9% on the year.
