Standards being drawn up to harmonize Ukrainian and European regs

KIEV, Aug. 26 – A total of 5,000 standards are to be drawn up and approved by 2020 to harmonize the Ukrainian standard system with the European one.

This is stipulated in the technical regulation system development strategy for the period until 2020 approved by cabinet resolution No. 844 of August 19.


We'll have enough gas for winter without Russia, energy minister says

KIEV, Aug. 26 - Ukraine will be able to store a comfortable level of natural gas reserves even without supplies of Russian gas, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said Wednesday.

The comments come in contrast with Demrchyshyn’s statements earlier this month that Ukraine will need to resume Russian gas imports in order to survive the winter.


Kiev and rebels agree to shore up truce

Russians sentence Ukraine director to 20 years on terrorism charges

ROSTOV-ON-DON, Aug. 25 – The North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has convicted Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov of plotting terrorist attacks in Crimea and has sentenced him to 20 years in a high-security prison, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courtroom.

Putin and Poroshenko hold talks in Minsk

MINSK, Aug. 26 - The leaders of Russia and Ukraine agreed on Tuesday on the need to "de-escalate" the conflict in eastern Ukraine but fundamental differences remain, Reuters reported, citing the Belarusian president who hosted the talks.
