Boost sanctions, Klimkin tells senators

WASHINGTON, March 7 - Ukraine's foreign minister told U.S. senators on Tuesday that sanctions against Russia shouldn't be eased and possibly should be ratcheted up as Moscow escalates its military aggression against its western neighbor, AP reported.


Ukraine awaiting ICJ judgment in 'terrorism and discrimination' case

KIEV, March 6 - Ukraine is expecting the United Nations International Court of Justice (ICJ) to make a judgment that would satisfy its legal claims for temporary measures to be imposed as part of Ukraine's case against Russia to hold it accountable "for committing acts of terrorism and discrimination," Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal said.


EC keeping an eye on Ukraine gas storage, says Energy Union VP

HOUSTON, March 7 - The European Commission believes that the situation with gas reserves in underground storage facilities in Ukraine is under control, but it will continue to monitor the situation, EC Vice President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic told reporters.


Ukraine international reserves expanded 0.9% last month, NBU reports

KIEV, March 3 – Ukraine's international reserves expanded by 0.9%, or $116 million, in February, to $13.538 million as of March 1, the National Bank of Ukraine announced.


Poroshenko calls for pressure on Moscow

KIEV, March 7 - President Petro Poroshenko called on Washington and Brussels on Monday to step up pressure on Moscow to secure the release of a hunger-striking Ukrainian pilot from a Russian jail, AFP reported.
The EU described reports of the hunger strike as "extremely worrisome" and called for the immediate release of 34-year-old Nadiya Savchenko.

Miner wage arrears threatens Donetsk environmental catastrophe

KIEV, March 4 - The staff of the Chervony Zhovten water pump mine in Yenakiyeve, Donetsk region, have said they are ready to go on strike due to wage arrears.

The miners "are on the verge of a social explosion, they have not been paid this year," the Mining Industry Workers Union has reported on its Web site.


Yanukovych: European integration to proceed on ‘step-by-step’ basis

KIEV, March 4 - Ukrainian integration with Europe will happen on a step-by-step basis, President Viktor Yanukovych said.

"We are prepared for European integration as much as Europe itself is prepared for this. We are realists, we understand that we have to carry out reforms, we need to harmonize our laws and technical standards, and there is a host of issues here. But we will be integrating step-by-step," Yanukovych said in an exclusive interview with Interfax.


IMF: We’re waiting for formation of new Ukrainian government

KIEV, March 5 – The International Monetary Fund is waiting for a new government to be formed in Ukraine to continue cooperation with the country, said IMF External Relations Director Caroline Atkinson.
