Heavy rain, wind shuts down power to 195 villages in western Ukraine

KYIV, Oct 6 – Some 195 villages in western Ukraine suffered power cuts when power line safety systems were triggered as a result of bad weather conditions, namely rain and heavy winds, over the night of October 5 to October 6, Ukraine's State Emergency Service has said.


Turkey’s Erdogan to visit Ukraine for joint strategic council meeting

KYIV, Oct 6 - Ukrainian authorities have confirmed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Kyiv on Monday.

"President of the Turkish Republic Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay an official visit to Ukraine on October 9, 2017. During his visit, the Turkish president will meet with President Petro Poroshenko and also attend a session of the Ukraine-Turkey High-Level Strategic Council co-chaired by the heads of state," the Ukrainian presidential website said on Friday.

Rada defeats proposal to overturn housing and utility regulator bill

KIEV, Oct. 7 – A proposal to overturn the bill on the National Commission for Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER) passed by Ukraine's parliament on September 22 was backed only by 90 lawmakers. This allows Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy to sign the bill and send it to the president for signing.


NBU to create center to respond to banking cyber security threats

KIEV, Oct. 7 – The National Bank of Ukraine will create a center to respond to cyber security incidents in the banking system and the payment space of Ukraine, the NBU announced.
