Ukraine’s economy to contract 45.1% on year in 2022, World Bank says

KYIV, April 11 – Ukraine's economy will contract 45.1% on the year in 2022 due to Russian invasion, reversing an earlier forecast of 3.2% growth, the World Bank said in its Europe and Central Asia Economic Update.


Mariupol carpeted with bodies, mayor says

KYIV, April 11 - The mayor of the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol said Monday that more than 10,000 civilians have died in the Russian siege of his city, and that the death toll could surpass 20,000, as weeks of attacks and privation leave the bodies of Mariupol’s people “carpeted through the streets.”

Most Ukrainians hope economy will improve after presidential election

KYIV, April 11 – Some 52% of Ukrainians hope that the situation in the country will improve somewhat after the presidential election, and positive expectations of Ukrainian citizens increased almost 1.5 times after the first round of the vote.
