Soros: Ukrainian economy among worst sufferers from financial crisis

YALTA, Sept. 28 – The Ukrainian economy is among those that most of all suffered from crisis in the world, according to a global financier and philanthropist, George Soros.

"Ukraine was close to default... In this hard situation the fact that [the country] was successful in avoiding a terrible catastrophe is a large achievement," he said during the teleconference bridge at the sixth YES (Yalta European Strategy) summit.


Government to start selling more T-bills to pay for Euro-2012

Government forms bureau for integration with Euro-Atlantic groups

KIEV, Sept. 26 - A bureau for integration with Euro-Atlantic organizations under the auspices of the Ukrainian government has begun operating.

The bureau, which is headed by former Foreign Ministry spokesman Vadym Triukhan, will be responsible for promoting cooperation between Ukrainian bodies of power in charge of the country's integration into the EU and NATO.


Yushchenko to visit US, confer with Bush on security issues

KIEV, Sept. 26 – President Viktor Yushchenko will make a working visit to the United States on Sept. 29.

During his visit, the head of state is scheduled to meet with U.S. President George Bush and extended talks will then be held between the delegations of the two countries.


Ukraine, Poland host 2012 host status in jeopardy, UEFA warns

BORDEAUX, Sept. 26 - Ukraine and Poland will remain co-hosts of the 2012 European Championship, but European soccer's governing body warned they could lose the tournament if preparations fall behind schedule, The Associated Press reported.


Tymoshenko: Political crisis may lead to early presidential vote

KIEV, Sept. 26 - Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko suggested Friday the on-going political crisis may lead to early presidential election, a sign that she was again stepping up her attack on President Viktor Yushchenko.
