President signs law seeking to encourage Ukraine industrial parks

KIEV, Aug. 14 - President Viktor Yanukovych signed a law that seeks to encourage creation of industrial parks in Ukraine by removing duties on imports of materials and equipment needed for their construction.

KIEV, Aug. 14 - A Ukrainian court on Tuesday ordered the extradition of the suspected leader of a foiled plot to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin, Interfax news agency reported.


Court delays Tymoshenko trial until 9/11

KIEV, Aug. 14 – A Ukrainian court on Tuesday delayed the tax evasion and embezzlement trial of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko until September 11 after she refused to appear in court, citing poor health.


Tymoshenko seeking to combine cases against her, Shepitko and Didenko

KIEV, Aug. 11 - Batkivschyna party leader and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is continuing to insist on combining a criminal case against her, which deals with the 2009 Ukrainian-Russian gas supply agreements, with the case against former chief of Energy Regional Customs Taras Shepitko and former head of the Ukrainian Customs Service Anatoliy Makarenko and the case against former Naftogaz First Deputy CEO Ihor Didenko.


Russian president calls for settlement of border dispute with Ukraine

SOCHI, Aug. 11 - Russia and Ukraine have to settle the border issue existing between them, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

"We need also to think about definitively settling the state border issue. We have a lot of subjects for a conversation. Therefore, I believe this conversation should be sincere, open, and friendly, just as it has always been between us," Medvedev said at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych in Sochi on Thursday.

KIEV, Aug. 14 – Imprisoned Ukrainian opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko’s campaign has opened a Facebook account to coordinate actions among protesters for overthrowing the “criminal regime” of President Viktor Yanukovych, Tymoshenko’s party said in a statement.


Steelmakers write to PM to express concern over sector decline

DNIPROPETROVSK, Aug. 13 - Some of Ukraine's biggest steel mills have sent a letter to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, expressing their concern over a drop in demand for steel in the world markets.

Deputy Industrial Policy Minister Volodomyr Severnyuk said at a meeting of steel industry bosses in Dnipropetrovsk that the Illich, Azovstal, Zaporizhstal, Alchevsk and Makiyivka steel mills had signed the letter.
