KIEV, Jan. 9 ??“ Russia and Ukraine, following a sharp three-day standoff over natural gas supplies, signed an agreement on Jan. 4 opening way for steady gas deliveries to the European Union, officials said.

The agreement is a relief for the E.U., which has experienced disruptions in Russian gas supplies Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 after Russia had completely cut off gas deliveries to Ukraine.
