NBU may tighten controls to defend currency rather than tap reserves
Journal Staff Report

KIEV, Nov. 9 - Ukraine's central bank chief Valeriya Hontareva said on Sunday the bank would implement tougher administrative measures to defend the faltering hryvnia if needed, rather than drawing further on its severely depleted foreign currency reserves, Reuters reported.

The hryvnia closed at a historic low against the dollar on Friday, after the central bank reined in its support for the Ukrainian currency and tensions mounted in rebel-held separatist regions.
