WASHINGTON, June 20 - U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has promised in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to strengthen sanctions against Russia if needed, the White House reported.

"The Vice President noted that the United States would work with our partners to impose further costs on Russia if it continued on its current course [with respect to southeastern Ukraine]," reads the statement.
