KIEV, May 27 - President-elect Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel had a telephone conversation to discuss the development of relations between the two countries in the future and also cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.

Poroshenko and Merkel focused mainly on the presidential elections Ukraine held on May 25, Poroshenko's press service told Interfax-Ukraine.

Merkel pointed to the importance of a fair and transparent election procedure in Ukraine and congratulated Poroshenko on his victory.
