KIEV, May 26 – Ukraine's presidential election has received the endorsement of GUAM, an international regional organization which includes four former Soviet republics: Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova.
"The presidential elections in Ukraine were organized and held in accordance with the international obligations and democratic electoral standards, including obligations and standards of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and Council of Europe, as well as Ukraine's national legislation, regulations and procedures developed by the Ukrainian Central Election Committee," GUAM monitors said in a statement read by GUAM Secretary General Valery Chechelashvili at a news conference in Kiev on Monday.
"The elections were held in the spirit of competition and can be assessed positively as free and fair generally," he said.
