KIEV, March 7 - Ukraine on Friday assured Shell that the new government is committed to continuing shale gas extraction projects as a way of reducing dependence on natural gas imports from Russia.

Yuriy Prodan, the newly appointed energy and coal industry minister, met Graham Tiley, the head of Shell operation in Ukraine, to express support for the project.
