KIEV, Feb. 17 – Counterfeit software usage in government agencies dropped from 40% to 33% in 2013, Oleksiy Ardanov, acting Chief of the Copyright and Related Rights Division of the State Intellectual Property Service, told Interfax-Ukraine.
Earlier, the United States Trade Representative and International Intellectual Property Alliance published the report on copyright protection in the world, including Ukraine. According to the documents, Ukraine hasn't resolved the issues in the field and might remain at the top of the list of countries with the largest number of intellectual property infringements [added to the list in 2013].
"The state service admits that the issues raised in the report haven't been resolved yet. However, we can acknowledge that in 2013 there was an upwards trend of software legalization in the executive government agencies, and a bill against Internet piracy was developed. According to inventory data obtained from central executive government agencies, software legalization measures facilitated a gradual reduction of counterfeit software usage from 40% in 2012 to 33% in 2013," Ardanov said.
