BERLIN, Jan. 23 – The German authorities see no reason to introduce sanctions against the Ukrainian leadership, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said.

Merkel told reporters on Thursday commenting on clashes in Kiev that they discussed the matter, but both the foreign minister of Germany and she believe that the issue of sanctions should not be put on the agenda yet.

At the same time, Merkel urged the Ukrainian authorities to ensure people's right to peaceful protests.
